Twickenham electric bike firm gears up Glastonbury Festival bosses with e-bikes

Popular electric bike firm 50cycles has geared up the staff at Glastonbury Festival to help them get about the massive site faster.

Twickenham electric bike firm gears up Glastonbury Festival bosses with e-bikes

Glastonbury Festival staff are zooming around the thousand-acre site at record speed to support festival-goers this year thanks to local e-bike firm 50cycles.com.

50cycles, the UK’s fastest growing retailer of electric bikes, has supplied sixteen electric bikes to the organisers of the famous festival which features Foo Fighters, Ed Sheeran and The Beach Boys.

Scott Snaith, managing director of 50cycles.com, based in Twickenham, said:

“We've been supplying electric bikes to the Glastonbury Festival since 2007 because the organisers have found there a great way to reduce the environmental impact of travelling around the site's varied and quite testing terrain. We’re proud that our bikes are being used at the world’s most famous music festival.

"This year the use sixteen e-bikes will help the Glastonbury team to get around the vast site quickly and easily to assist festival goers. They enable the team to go faster, further.”

One of the all-electric fleet is the Ubco 2x2 all terrain utility bike from New Zealand, the only one of its kind in the UK.

So far, the company has sold more than 25,000 electric bikes and already has four other stores: Brighton, Bristol, Loughborough and Manchester.

Turnover last year was £3.5m and is expected to top £5m by the end of next year. The company is targeting four other major UK cities for new stores and has earmarked a £10m turnover within the next eighteen months.

The electric bike market is expected to grow at least 20 per cent during 2017. Electric bikes are popular with people who want to ride further and faster. Sales are booming because of demand from commuters, couriers, recreational cyclists and people who want an alternative to traditional push bikes.

50cycles was founded in 2004 by brothers Scott and Tim Snaith. The duo bought two electric bikes in Japan in order to ride one and sell the other. They set up a single page website and sold it within two days. Since then, the business has sold more than 25,000 electric bikes and is now the UK’s fastest growing retailer of electric bikes and has sold more than anyone else.

The company is on track to reach a £10m turnover within the next two years. The company takes its name from the frequency of mains electricity which is 50 Hertz or ‘cycles’.

"The sixteen e-bikes we've supplied will help the Glastonbury Festival team to get around the vast site quickly and easily to assist festival goers. They simply enable staff to go further, faster."
